Eight
to Ten year olds enter a new level in these more challenging
workshops. Here
students learn the responsible use of cutters,
screw drivers, pliers, and hot glue guns.
Soldering skills are taught to those who wish
to learn. As
with all Big Sky workshops, there is an emphasis on
balancing fun with focus so that projects are
completed.
Race
Cars Advanced* 8-10 June 9-13
Do you love cars?
Do you love speed?
Do you love to invent things that actually
work? Come
to the races and build a balloon car, an Alka-seltzer
rocket dragster, a solar electric car of the future
and a computer junk derby downhill racer of your own
design.
Build-a-Beast
Advanced* 8-10 June 16-20 / July 7-11
Like Dr. Frankenstein (but much nicer)
you will take a pile of old computers and electronic
junk and piece it together into a motorized beast of
your own design.
Will it be a hard drive horse?
A zombietron?
A unixacorn?
What will you create?
Solar
Animatronics Advanced* 8-10 June 23-27
Back in the 1950’s Walt Disney created
an amazing world of motorized animals. He called his
creations Animatronics.
Come create a creature of your own and then
get it moving in your solar electric powered
Animatron Theatre.
Future
Town
Advanced* 8-10 July 14-18
Hard to imagine it, but you are the old
folks of the future.
What kind of world do you want to live in?
Using parts that you find inside old
computers you will design and create a miniature
future city. Will
it light up? Will
you add motorized spinning wind turbines?
Will you make a working crane operated by a
funny looking humanoid constructed from electronic
circuits? I
think you will!
Game
Design Advanced* 8-10 July 21-25
Humans are playful animals.
We love games.
At this camp you build a box full of classic
games from around the world.
Then you get to design your own game with
lights, motors, and buzzers.
Scientists do like to play!
Wizards
Advanced* 8-10 July 28-August 1
Join the hundreds of kids in
Santa Fe
who have graduated from the Big Sky School of
Wizardry and Magic.
Make a motorized, spinning wizard crystal
ball, a super bright wizard power ring, and an all
new fiber optic wizard wand.
Booms
and Biospheres Advanced* 8-10 August
4-8
Did you know that you are a hairy bag a
chemicals living on a fragile ball floating through
space? So,
how about learning what it’s all made of?
Create concoctions, grow prehistoric
creatures from eggs (for real), create explosions
and implosions, and finally create your own self
sustaining biosphere!
Rockets
and Launchers 8-10 August
11-15
Water rocketry has got to be the
cheapest fun on earth. Using recycled bottles and
other parts you will make a rocket that will fly up
to 400 feet in the air.
Then learn the fascinating science of
pressure and projectiles as you launch paper rockets
over 100 feet (with goggles on, of course!).
*Advanced
8-10 While
projects are similar to 5-7 group, advanced camps
give kids more independence, more tools, more
sophisticated materials and introduce more advanced
concepts and skills.
